Acts 8:38-40 NKJV
[38] So he commanded the chariot to stand still. And both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and he baptized him. [39] Now when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught Philip away, so that the eunuch saw him no more; and he went on his way rejoicing. [40] But Philip was found at Azotus. And passing through, he preached in all the cities till he came to Caesarea.
Not much is known about the eunuch who Philip baptized. He was a highly regarded Ethiopian guard in the Queens Court. When Philip met him, he was reading from the prophet Isaiah (obviously hungry for knowledge). When Philip explained it as the foreshadowing of Jesus, he believed and wanted to be baptized. When he came up out of the water, Philip vanished. Beyond that moment, all we know is that the eunuch rejoiced and went on his way. His position would have provided him with the authority, honor, and credibility to speak of his experience and spread the gospel in Ethiopia.
We all have a story to tell. It might not be along the same lines as a royal guardsman and a vanishing evangelist, but we have a testimony none the less. Our stories are like seeds waiting to be sown. When they remain untold, we miss out on opportunities to plant them in our own communities.
Something tells me that eunuch did not keep quiet about his experience. I can't help but wonder how many souls were reached and how many new believers came to know Jesus because of one person. We all have open doors to share the gospel. The circles we run in are mission fields on the front line. Because I know Jesus, I should take every opportunity to make Him known.
