[8] First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world. [9] For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of His Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers, [10] making request if, by some means, now at last I may find a way in the will of God to come to you. [11] For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift, so that you may be established - [12] that is, that I may be encouraged together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me.
It isn't impossible to do life alone for periods of time. I believe isolation is an important part of our spiritual growth. We need to "get alone" with God. We NEED to sit silently in His presence. We NEED to allow God time and space to speak to us without the noise of the world (or other people) around us. We NEED stillness for the Holy Spirit to provide us with discernment.
When I am alone with God, I am strengthened, rested, and renewed. When I am alone with my own thoughts and feelings, I am in poor company.
I also believe we need other believers in our lives for spiritual maturity, accountability, and transparency. We aren't meant to go through life by ourselves. Scripture points out the importance of having relationships with people of similar faith bases and values.
Proverbs 27:17 - As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.
Hebrews 10:24 - And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, 25. not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the day approaching.
It isn't hard for me to find a reason to stay home. I spend a lot of time being busy during the day. It is when I am the most tired that I find the most good in spending time with my faith family. My job requires me to be self-motivated. Work pulls at me constantly. My church family pours into me with love, wisdom, and encouragement when I don't even know I need it.
